Meet My New Vocabulary

1. Myth- legendary or a traditional story that usually concerns an event or a hero, with or without using factual or real explanations.
  •  My grandma says that the story of the Llorona is not a myth.
2. Theme-  central topic or idea explored in a text
  •  I would say Shakespeare's favorite themes are love and death.
3. Insatiable-  impossible to satisfy
  •  America's insatiable demand for cocaine is unbelieveable.
4. Uncanny- strange or mysterious, especially in an unsettling way
  •  You can tell that she's related to Shrek; the resemblance is uncanny.
5. kudos- praise and honor received for an achievement
  •  Kudos to Dave for being sober for the past 2 years!
6. supercalifragilisticexpialidocious- extraordinarily good; wonderful
  •  That BBQ was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
7. affirm- state as a fact; assert strongly and publicly.
  •  We should clearly affirm that we're on side before war breaks out.
8. internet- a vast computer network linking smaller computer networks worldwide
  •  The internet is an amazing thing as it helps us research anything we're curious about.
9. Allusion- a literary device used to reference another object outside of the work of literature.
  •  You may see allusion in many people's works like in books or plays.
10. Tone-  the attitude or approach that the author takes toward the work’s central theme or subject.
  •  The tone of the author was worried because she has never experienced this kind of situation before.
